The area surrounding Salte Trusche is one of the most special we have ever encountered: Tuscia, the cradle of Etruscan civilisation, still deeply connected to nature and inspired by the feminine principle. An archaic, wild and unpredictable landscape, divided between woods, waterways and small villages.

Our town: Farnese

Salte Trusche is in the municipality of Farnese, a small medieval village where it is wonderful to lose yourself in the narrow streets and small squares until you come across its special places, the views of the gorge (vertical forest around the tuff cliff on which the village stands), the small museum with medieval ceramics and Etruscan finds, the road where Luigi Comencini shot some scenes from his film about Pinocchio and, nearby, the Monastery of the Poor Clares. Then, walking past S. Maria di Sala, a small late medieval church near a spring, and further on, the Cascatelle del Pelicotonno and Cascata del Salabrone waterfalls… then let yourself be drawn in by the many paths of the vast wooded area surrounding the village, the Natural Reserve Selva del Lamone, dotted with traces of the late Neolithic period and crossed by the Olpeta River.

Places of inspiration in Tuscia

The Hermitage of Poggio Conte in Ischia di Castro is perhaps the main ‘place of the soul’ of the area. A medieval hermitage in the woods next to the Fiora River, nestled in a tuff wall overlooking a courtyard of rocks crossed by a small stream and with a sacred gift given by a finger-wide waterfall that gushes inexorably over a large conical boulder… It is the temple of the area for many.

The free thermal baths, starting with San Filippo, natural and immersed in the woods, and Saturnia, a large succession of pools fed by a sulphurous thermal spring at a temperature of 37 degrees. There are other thermal baths in the area, even hotter ones, which you can discover once you are here.

The art gardens are a tradition in the Lazio-Tuscany-Umbria area, and we definitely recommend:

The Tarot Garden on a hill overlooking the Argentario sea in Capalbio, a gift to the area from Niki, Jean and their artisan collaborators, who devoted themselves entirely to ceramic and sculptural art for three years, creating a wonderful artistic park immersed in the Mediterranean scrub.

The Sacro Bosco di Bomarzo, very well known, is certainly a pleasant place to visit during the low tourist season, preferably without too many expectations.

La Serpara, in Civitella D’Agliano, is a more recent project, private and small but cared for, the result of the work of a family. It is a piece of land with many species of bamboo well integrated with native plants and sculptures by various artists.

There are numerous archaeological sites, in order of preference:

Vulci, Sovana and Vitozza, Monterozzi, Rofalco (in Farnese) and others.
