Pruning is establishing a boundary between the work of nature and that of human beings. Doing so after thoroughly studying the tree and its essence is a way to overcome duality.

On Sunday, March 8, we will meet at Salte Trusche for a day of advanced olive tree pruning practice, aimed at those who want to deepen their skills.

Reasoning and cutting will take place under the guidance of Antonio Cutro, forestry doctor, tree climber, and expert pruner of different types of olive trees, including monumental and centuries-old ones.

In particular, we will practice reform pruning of medium-large Caninese variety olive trees. These are bushy plants with excess main branches, grown in a dichotomous vase shape.

The goal is to guide them towards a polyconic vase shape, to facilitate simpler pruning and easier harvesting in the future.

Given the importance of the cuts that will be made, extensive use will be made of hand-held and pole chainsaws, with the aim of making the best possible cuts even with these tools.

The cost is €60 per person, for a maximum of 8 participants.

Registration by email by February to: saltetrusche@gmail.com

Each participant may bring their own pruning tools if they wish.

Please arrive at 8:45 a.m. so that we can start together at 9 a.m. sharp.

There will be two short breaks for coffee and a packed snack.

At the end, at 3 p.m., there will be a shared lunch to allow time for questions and comments with Antonio. Everyone should bring their own plate, cutlery, and water bottle.

With a kind request for sharing:

One of the practice days led by Carlo Mascioli from the Olive Tree Pruning and Management Course organized by Riserva Naturale Selva del Lamone and AUCS was also recently held at Salte Trusche. Here are some photos:
